The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
