Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Wilder
The striker has joined Sheffield United only half a year following leading derogatory chants aimed at their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent this past summer.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead offensive chants regarding Wilder amid the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England player will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull his beloved club away from the drop zone.
Previous History Involving Bamford and the Manager
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Struggles
The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
