News has broken that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Significant Return to Panem
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Industry whispers indicate their roles will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.

The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
