Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
